Musical theater necessitates an absolute attention to detail; not only in process of operation, but within the marriage of multiple departments, operating as one, to form the magical experience that we all expect.
We at Randolph Designs can help you put all of the pieces together. A musical needs to be constructed, moment to moment, on the basis of achieving the storytelling goals defined by the “book”. The lighting design that overlays a musical should enhance as well as support the performance. We take the musical and break it down into its basic elements of place and time. Then, in conjunction with the set designer and the director, develop a “storyboard” of appropriate looks for the show. This could include basic stage washes for establishing scenes, side lighting for any dance numbers, or internal scenic element lighting to give the finales that Broadway POP!!
